Stuttgart, Germany – 22 February 2016 – Since 2012, the Automotive Simulation Center Stuttgart – in short asc(s - is one of the German contributors of PaaSage, a large scale European research project for developing an open and integrated platform to support model based lifecycle management of Cloud applications for software and service providers (see www.PaaSage.eu).
PaaSage is an integrated open source development environment to support both design and deployment of Cloud applications, together with an accompanying methodology that allows model-based development, configuration, optimisation and deployment of existing and new applications independently of the existing underlying Cloud infrastructures.
Today PaaSage is moving out of the research area and is entering within industry and businesses. The PaaSage technology makes it easy for IT departments to deploy applications and processes onto various public or private Cloud infrastructures, and to dynamically adapt the application execution if needed, e.g. in case additional computational resources are required at runtime.
Cloud approaches are particularly relevant for large-scale computer-based numerical simulations. These may require very large computation resources, with a possibly high level of variability during the whole computation workflow. Even more the very fast growing global competitive pressure, new legal regulations and distributed development environments during the last few years lead to a complete rethink of Computer-Aided-Engineering (CAE) and High-Performance-Computing (HPC) by using cloud technologies.
According to Pierre Guisset, PaaSage communication manager, “This evolution is supported by PaaSage and will enable Tier-2 and Tier-3 suppliers, and especially many SMEs, to get more integrated into the automotive OEM development process”.
In the workshop “From Cloud to Road” leading managers from automotive OEM, Independent Software Vendors and Cloud Service Platform Providers will present future challenges and the PaaSage platform will be demonstrated.
The “From Cloud to Road” workshop will be held on 11 April 2016 at the University of Stuttgart. Registration at https://www.asc-s.de/en/workshops.
The PaaSage platform is available through the OW2 Community forge at http://www.ow2.org/bin/view/ActivitiesDashboard/PaaSage.
